Since the announcement that a certain red-haired mermaid will be returning to our screens this May, our mermaid parties have become more popular than ever before! With this in mind, we want to share our top tips for throwing the most epic ‘under the sea’ party of the year. 

Mermaid-Themed Invitations  

Make a splash before the party has even started with some beautiful ‘under the sea’ themed invitations. This is your chance to get creative and establish the colour palette, décor, and overall theme of the party! There are plenty of available templates online – how magical are these DIY sparkly shells?! Don’t forget to give your guests at least 2 weeks to RSVP, and include the venue address and mermaid dress code. 

Deep Sea Snacks

No party is complete without delicious, fun, and creative food. There are so many possibilities for fin-tastic mermaid-themed treats that we have compiled a separate list of 10 magical food ideas for your mermaid party.  

Of course, the pinnacle of all party foods is the birthday cake. Whilst we are certainly no Mary Berry, we have seen (and eaten!) dozens of beautiful mermaid cakes over the years. You could create a simple yet effective sandcastle cake, using crushed biscuits to mimic sand and ice cream cones for the turrets. But if this all sounds a little over-whale-ming, you can always turn to your local bakery or cake shop!  

Mermaid Backdrop

Transform your venue into an underwater paradise with a mermaid backdrop. This is a great way to incorporate your theme and provides a space to take gorgeous photos for you to treasure forever.

Get the mermaid look

Transform your little one into a real-life mermaid princess on their special day! A fun and simple way to do this is by holding fishnet tights against their face before applying face paint, to create a scaly effect. You could finish the look off by adding cosmetic glitter and a few gems; they will be true mermaid royalty!   

Want to take the mermaid look one step further? Create the colourful mermaid hair of dreams by purchasing temporary hair chalk or these pretty hair clips from Claires. 

Aquatic Adventures 

Entertaining a group of children for hours is certainly no easy task, so engaging and on-theme party games are super important. Put an aquatic spin on a classic party game with pin the tail on the mermaid! Each guest will be blindfolded and take turns to pin the tail as close to the correct spot as possible! 

Hosting an outdoor party? Create a pirate treasure hunt! Hide gold coins around the venue and give the children clues to find them along the way. You could also hide a treasure chest full of treats somewhere for everyone to enjoy at the end! 

Swap the Party Bag for a Treasure Box 

Party favours are a staple of any birthday party and are an excellent way to keep the fun going even after the event has ended! Stay on theme by swapping the traditional party bag with a treasure box full of goodies. Simply find a template online and assemble the box out of card (which is also more environmentally friendly than typical plastic party bags). Fill with mermaid stickers, pencils, a notepad, temporary glitter tattoos, slime, chocolate coins, or other exciting treats.

Ready to throw the most epic under-the-sea party of the year? These mermaid-themed food ideas are certain to make a splash with all the guests!

Clam-Shell Cookies

These deep-sea snacks are sure to leave a sweet taste in the mouths of your guests, and they are super simple to make!

Purchase a box of plain cookies, or bake them yourself by following a basic recipe online.

Create your buttercream icing by beating icing sugar, butter, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy. 

Separate your buttercream into three separate bowls and add food colouring. We recommend purple, pink and blue for that true mermaid aesthetic!

Pipe the buttercream onto the underside of one cookie, and sandwich another on top. Finish your clams by adding a small, round sweet (yoghurt-covered raisins are a great choice but feel free to get creative!) in the middle to mimic a pearl.

Ocean Water Punch

There is perhaps nothing that screams ‘mermaid party’ more than a bright ocean-coloured drink! This novel idea is sure to be a hit with younger guests, and you only need three ingredients:

Pineapple Juice

Blue Food Colouring

Lemon and Lime Soft Drink, e.g. Sprite

If you want to make an adult version of this drink, consider adding Malibu! 

Blue Jelly in Sand

Who doesn’t love jelly?! Mermify this birthday party staple by making it ocean blue. If you can’t find any blue jelly in the supermarket, use some of the blue food colouring left over from your clam-shell cookies and ocean water punch. Pour into small, shot-sized plastic cups, and leave in the fridge overnight to set. Finish by placing the jelly cups on a bed of crushed biscuits or brown sugar, to mimic sand.

Fruit Crabs

For a healthier treat, try creating these adorable fruit crabs!  

Peel an orange and divide it into segments. 

Cut the orange peel with a knife or scissors, to make the crab’s legs. 

Poke a grape or a blueberry through a cocktail stick and insert it into the orange segment to create an eye. Repeat this step for the other eye.  

And that’s it! Healthy food has never looked so cute! 

Starfish Sandwiches  

Sandwiches are a must at any party, so why not make them fit the theme by simply cutting them into the shape of starfish?! You will be the star of the show after your guests try these fun, tasty snacks!

You could also try making mini starfish pizzas in the same way!

Mermaid Snack Mix

Snack tubs are always a hit, and are super easy to prepare. Combine popcorn, goldfish crackers, jelly sharks, blue M&Ms, chocolate coins, and sprinkles. Serve in small individual containers.

Shark Snack Cup

Your party guests will be ravenous for these shark snack cups!  

All you need is: 

1. Little yoghurt pots/cups 

2) Vanilla yoghurt with a drop of blue food colouring. 

3) Shark jelly sweets. 

4) Crushed biscuits (to mimic sand). 

You can finish these fin-tastic treats by adding a cocktail umbrella! 

Mermaid Rice Krispie Treats 

These gorgeous mermaid Rice Krispie treats are perfect for your under-the-sea party, and they involve no baking whatsoever! 

Buy a box of Rice Krispie squares, or make them yourself if you have more time on your hands. You can do this by combining butter, marshmallows, and Rice Krispies in a saucepan. Mix well, then place the mixture in a lined baking tray. Put the tray in the fridge and leave for 2-3 hours to set, and then cut it into squares. 

Melt some white chocolate in the microwave and add blue food colouring. Alternatively, you could use Wilton Turquoise Candy Melts.  

Dip the Rice Krispie squares into the chocolate, but only halfway. This creates the look of the ocean against the sand!  

Now for the fun part: the decorations! This is your chance to get creative – sweets, sprinkles… you decide. Put your creations back in the fridge to set, and after a few more hours they will finally be party ready! 

Seaweed

There are two different options for creating these sweet seaweed treats. You could buy some sour lace sweets, or, for a healthier option, grape skewers also create that under-the-sea effect. Seaweed has never looked quite so appetising!

The Icing on the Cake 

Finally, we cannot forget the pinnacle of all party foods… the birthday cake! Whilst we are certainly no Mary Berry, we have seen (and eaten!) dozens of beautiful mermaid cakes over the years. You could create a simple yet effective sandcastle cake, using crushed biscuits to mimic sand and ice cream cones for the turrets. Another option is to buy a plain white cake and decorate it yourself with blue icing, edible pearls, chocolate mermaid tails, and more. Come on Barbie, let’s go Party!  

Barbie is back by popular demand!  

We’re so glad kids are wanting the infamous doll to come and entertain at their party. Isn’t it every child’s dream to meet their real-life toys? All ages will enjoy the fun a life-size Barbie will bring. 

If you’re not sure how to through a fantastic Barbie Party, we can certainly help with some Barbie party ideas:

The Set-Up: 

As entertainers, we’ve played Barbie princess, sporty Barbie and ballerina Barbie. That’s what we love about her; a female-led icon for any young girl to look up to. Barbie has such variety; that means you can get really creative when it comes to the set-up. So long as you go full out with sparkles and flair! 

WHERE TO START? Well, in every version of Barbie…her signature colour is PINK!  

So go crazy with it; pink balloon arches, pink tablecloths, pink birthday cake…And if there’s enough pink, then sparkles and glitter must come next! You can also find Barbie party accessories such as plates and cups online, or at your local party supplier, (a great way to shop locally,) if sparkles aren’t your thing, plain hot Barbie pink is the colour to go for! 

Photo walls are a great way to ensure you have memories of those party picture-perfect moments, forever. The Barbie Photobox photo booth can make you look and feel like a lifesize doll. The cake: 

Somehow, the cake always seems to become the most stressful part of the party. You have to worry about there not being enough to go around, if it fits the theme and of course – if it’s yummy! 

There are many things you can do to get this right, and these are just a few options when deciding on a cake:

– You can use a trusted cake company in your area, make sure you look at reviews before paying, or use a recommended business. If you’re not sure, reach out on social media for help suggesting great local companies. 

-You could ask your friends and family to help. Do you know a friend who bakes for fun? What about granny? Never feel afraid to reach out for help.  

-Head down to your local store and buy the cake. Sometimes, with parents going to so many parties in a year, there’s pressure to have the most ‘gorgeous’ looking cake. But, to take the stress off, there is always the option to buy a cake from the supermarket. They’re cheaper, they have lots of different themes, and taste just as yummy! 

Barbie Cupcakes could be a better option than one large cake. They make a great display set out on tiered cake stands. cupcakes mean you’ll be able to get just the right amount for every guest, and no sibling will be fighting over the sizes of the slices, and there will be no cutting the cake fiasco when you just don’t have the time.

It’s been nearly six months since our incredible, free Princess Parade event in Maidstone. At least 450 families and friends attended to meet and greet with eight of our gorgeous princesses. Photos were snapped, there was dancing and singing all the way through; live music floated through the air. Magic and sparkle was everywhere, as the princesses paraded down the Maidstone High Street.  

We were greeted by so many little princesses

Snow Princess Parties were overwhelmed by the love and support we received from everyone from the Maidstone community and beyond. We loved seeing so many kids dressed in their finest fairy-tale outfits. The way their faces lit up as they saw us walk up the High Street, will be something our princesses will remember for years to come. We stopped to answer the questions the children always wanted to ask, and played some of our favourite music. Our fabulous singing princesses performed live as we walked to Brenchley Gardens for some more dancing and singing! 

Creating beautiful memories they’ll never forget

The fact that we got to give the children a memory of meeting ‘Elsa’, ‘Sleeping Beauty’ or ‘Ariel’ in our hometown of Maidstone is something we’ll always treasure and can’t thank you enough for joining in on the fun! Two years ago, on the 25th August 2021, I organised the very first Princess Parade in South London. We took to Balham High Street with 6 of your favourite characters to spread joy and give everyone the chance to meet their favourite fairy-tale princess. 

We greeted friends from near and far

As we arrived outside Milk Cafe on Balham Hill, we were met by local nurseries, schools, friends and families; some had travelled over an hour to see us. I couldn’t believe the amount of people! We then walked along the High Street meeting lots of friends along the way, before making our way to Tooting Bec common for our final performance of the day.  

Bad weather can’t stop our princess parade…

This is a yearly event, rain or shine. Last year on the morning of our parade, we woke to thunder and flooding. But that was not going to stop us! We headed to Balham but the rain was still pouring. Thankfully, Balham Library offered to host our first performance. Over 200 people packed out the hall. It was so touching that no matter what, you brought your little ones out to see us. Then, as the rain stopped, we took to Tooting Bec common to be met by even more little fans! A member of the public was playing tennis and even played ‘let it go’ on his boom-box so we could perform. It really was a whole community effort.

On Thursday 4th August 2022, as the clock struck 12 pm, we at Snow Princess Parties took to the streets of Burnham with eight of your favourite characters, to bring magic to children, (and adults,) in a live-action Superhero and Princess Show during the Summer Holidays! 

Over the course of the two-hour Parade, we were joined by well over 500 families who had come to meet and greet with the characters. There was lots of singing and dancing to well-known princess songs and lots of snaps with us all as we went.

Our Burnham Princess Parade was such a huge success, we’re doing it again!

We met hundreds of little princesses

At our first meeting point, our fairytale characters were greeted with open arms, by little ones all dressed in their best princess and superhero finery for the event. It was so special to see all the children’s reactions to the princess parade, as they smiled and posed with the princesses and superheroes alike. It was then time to make our way to our next destination; we paraded up Whittaker Road to Burnham Park Hall with everyone in tow; a moment I will truly never forget!

Arriving at Burnham Park Hall was magical, I couldn’t possibly forget walking around the corner and seeing just how many people had come out to support the event! Here we met hundreds more little princesses and superheroes who then joined in with the singing princesses at Burnham Park Hall. Everyone really got involved!

The day was so special for many, one parent who attended on the day  got in touch and said: 

“We attended the princess parade and it did not disappoint. All the princesses were kind and patient, and took the time to make each child feel special. You can tell that they are all passionate about creating the best experience possible for the children. We were there from beginning to end and the entire event was exceptionally organised. The singing and dancing led by the princesses created a  magical atmosphere that we will cherish forever.” 

The day of the parade really was the most exciting, divine, special day from start to finish. Every day it feels so surreal that my full-time job is focused on spreading magic and helping make dreams come true for children all over the country! As a team, we can really make magic happen by enabling children to meet their “real” Elsa, Spiderman, Cinderella and so many more – right on their doorsteps!

Princess Safiya’s parents always knew that her vivacious and gentle demeanour would lead to her working with children in some capacity. Well, look at her now mum and dad! Safiya gets to live her best princess life as the Director of Snow Princess Parties, Surrey.

The fairy tale all began whilst Safiya was studying musical theatre at drama school. She stumbled upon a job advertisement that contained all the ingredients that she loves: dancing, singing, acting, dressing up and entertaining children. Flash forward one year, and Safiya is in her dream job, looking forward to work every single day. Whether she is dressed up as a unicorn, mermaid, fairy, or Moana… being a princess never gets old! 

Fan favourites like the lovable Mirabel and flower princess Isabella made their Snow Princess Party debuts, with Safiya up front and centre. With her curly hair, big smile, and booming singing voice, you will always find Safiya singing and dancing to the Encanto soundtrack at a party!
